Description

Manual of Pāli Grammar, a three-volume set, is a unique, comprehensively detailed explanation of Pāli grammar. Free from unnecessary technical jargon, it simplifies the complexity of grammar through a systematic classification of Pāli nouns. Brief morphological notes and word breakdowns are integrated wherever necessary thus synthesizing both an ancient mode of morphology-based study and contemporary ways of learning from a linguistic perspective. Intended to be used alongside Kacc yana's Pāli Grammar (English translation), this manual is a practical guide based on more in-depth analysis and applied Pāli grammar suitable for serious students.

Book A of the first volume explains core grammatical concepts, morphological procedures and their uses, as well as various noun groups and their structural stages of change, starting from a base word-form to becoming a complete word. Thus it aids in developing both word-building skills and fundamental knowledge about the structural dynamics of words crucial to successfully learning Pāli. The role of morphological rules are elucidated by means of the relevant Sutta numbers for each noun based on the gender, noun ending, and specific case-endings in each lesson.

Book B of the first volume is a practical Pāli reader with simple sentences composed of various nouns, studied in Book A, with additional helpful notes and explanations. It aids in developing practical reading and comprehension skills.
