The collection of discourses in the Sutta Pitaka known as Samyutta Nikaya has 7,762 suttas of varied length, generally short, arranged in a special order according to subject matter into five major divisions.
Vol 1 - This first division, the Sagatha vagga, contains eleven samyuttas with discourses grouped according to characters appearing in them, the king of devas, the devas, the Brahma, Mara, King of Kosala, bhikkhus and bhikkhunis. The word Sagatha is derived from the fact that various personalities appearing in the discourses conducted their dialogues or interviews with the Buddha mostly in verse.
Vol 2 - This second division, the Nidana vagga, is a collection of suttas primarily pertaining to causation or the principles of conditionality and interdependence, explained in the detailed formula of 'Paticcasamuppada', or Dependent Origination. Various aspects of Paticcasamuppada, together with expositions on doctrinal matters concerning practice of the holy life form the main theme of these samyuttas.
Vol 3 - The third division, the Khandha vagga, is a collection of suttas primarily pertaining to the five aggregates matter, sensation, perception, mental concomitants and consciousness. Made up of thirteen samyuttas, the Khandha Vagga forms an important collection of doctrinal discussion on such topics as atta, anatta, eternity, and annihilation.
Vol 4 - The fourth division, the Salayatana-vagga, is a collection of suttas primarily pertaining to the six senses - eye, ear, nose, tongue, body and mind. Concise but illuminating expositions on Nibbana are found in many suttas.
Vol 5 - The fifth division, the Mahavagga, or great section, is made up of twelve samyuttas, that deal the Noble Eightfold Path (magga), the Seven Factors of Enlightenment (bojjhanga), the Four Establishment of Mindfulness (satipatthana), the Faculties (indriya), the Four Right Striving (sammappadhana), the Five Powers (bala), the Four Bases for Spiritual Power (iddhipada), Anuruddha discourses, the Jhanas, Mindfulness of Breathing (anapana), Factors of Stream-entry (sotapatti) and the Truths (sacca).

Vipassana, which means to see things as they really are, is one of India's most ancient techniques of meditation. More information about Vipassana as taught by S.N. Goenka is available at www.dhamma.org.
The tag Vipassana identifies products that are directly related to this tradition and differentiates them from other Theravada resources available on our site. While the main emphasis in Vipassana meditation as taught by S.N. Goenka is on actual practice, this product may provide inspiration and guidance to a Vipassana meditator.
We also carry titles from the Theravada tradition, as we feel that by exploring the wider world of the Theravada texts, which include the Buddha’s discourses, commentaries, and scholarly articles and treatises, meditators have an opportunity to deepen their understanding of the Dhamma and thereby enrich their meditation practice. This kind of intellectual exploration also helps a meditator to gain an understanding of the evolution and historical context of their meditation tradition. This understanding in turn deepens their practice and understanding of the Dhamma.

Year after year, the costs of maintaining our own warehouse has far exceeded the income.
By focusing on what we do best (such as make Dhamma content available at low or no cost), and partnering with others who have already built robust printing, packing, and delivery systems, we free up resources that can be redirected towards expanding Pariyatti's offerings for you.
