Description

This sutta is the primary discourse in which the Buddha describes the practice of meditation in detail. This translation of the Mah satipa h na Sutta has Roman-script Pāli with an English translation on facing pages as well as an introductory article and detailed footnotes explaining Pali terms and phrases. This highly significant text will be of interest to any serious student of meditation or of the Buddha's teaching. The eBook contains links in the table of contents as well as with all endnotes to make it easier to navigate and study the text.

Using this text, Mr. Goenka gives evening discourses explaining why Vipassana is taught the way it is. The Satipatthana Sutta Discourses book is a summary of those discourses and serves as a nice companion to the Mah satipa h na Sutta. The softcover book of this sutta can be found here.

This eBook is in PDF formats. PDF eBooks can be read on any eBook reader which can display PDF files, and on computers. PDF eBooks are not printable.

Arising, Passing, Arising and Passing

At first this book came off as ultra-repetitive and I felt estranged from it. I then realized that the repetitiveness of the text was on purpose and it was resonating the message to me over and over until it became apparent of the importance of it or even the purpose of this book. The text/message that kept being repeated was that everything is in the state of arising, passing, and arising and passing away. The arising and passing is what hit me. I knew everything arose and would pass away, but I never saw it as a whole as well. That was very powerful for me and really helped in my Vipassana meditation practice. I highly recommend this read even if it can start feeling uncomfortable at first. Read it until you feel lighter about it. ;)
