Description

This book uses the didactic method of an imagined dialogue between a young American seeker and a Buddhist monk to examine how the Buddha's teaching answers the fundamental question: Is there any prospect for a deeper fulfillment and peace than everyday pleasures? The young man and the venerable bhikkhu talk from the evening through the night and into the morning.

The tone of the book is natural and relaxed, accurately rendering the sincerity of a conversation between a sincere seeker and a spiritual guide:

Gene: You've answered all my questions, venerable Sir…I shouldn't trouble you any more this morning. I better go.

Bhikkhu: We all have our duties. You have your work to attend to.

Gene: Yes, I have my work, and then I have my work, my Dhamma work.

Bhikkhu: The Dhamma should fill and brighten all your hours. Keep practicing, Gene.
