Description

In this 48-page booklet, the author discusses an age-old question from the fresh angle, "What does the attainment of Nibbana mean in terms living experience?"; and in the second essay she compares the attainments of the Buddha with those of the arahants. The author is Professor Emeritus of Pāli and Buddhism at the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka.
From her study of the Pāli texts, she describes four outstanding attributes of the experience of Nibbana: happiness, moral perfection, realization and spiritual freedom. In comparing the experience of the Buddha and the arahants, she explains that while both are said to share the same realization of liberation, the Buddha is distinguished by the cosmic dimensions and breadth of his enlightenment.

Between 1958 and 2002, a total of 334 individual physical Wheel Publication booklets were published by the Buddhist Publication Society (BPS). Those 334 booklets included 468 essays, tracts, and monographs; many were published as double or triple volumes.
