Description

In the Aṅguttara Nikāya the division is a purely numerical one. There are eleven classified groups (nipātas), the subject of the first being a single item, followed by groups of two items and so on, to the final group of eleven items. Each nipāta is divided into vaggas, each of which contains ten or more suttas, there being 2,308 suttas in all.

Part I:

Translated by Nyanaponika Thera, this Wheel contains a wonderful selection of the suttas from books one through four.

Part III:

Here are selected texts from the books eight to eleven of the A guttara Nik ya, edited and translated by Thera Nyanaponika. "There are eight reasons for giving. What eight? People may give out of affection; or in an angry mood; out of stupidity; out of fear; or because they think: ?such gifts have been given before by my father and grandfather and it was done by them before; hence it will be unworthy of me to give up this old family tradition'; or because of thinking, ?by giving this gift, I shall - after the body's breakup, after death - be reborn in a happy realm of existence, in a heavenly word'; or because of thinking, ?when giving this gift, my heart will be glad, and happiness and joy will arise in me'; or one gives because it ennobles and adorns the mind."
