Description

A biographical sketch of the great Sri Lankan patriot and Buddhist reviver of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Growing up in Christianized Ceylon of the 1870's and '80's Dharmapala witnessed the transition of the island from a colony of Great Britain to an independent country. He played a major role in the reinstitution of Buddhism in his native land and in the spread of accurate knowledge of the Buddha's teaching throughout the world. He was the person who conceived of and inspired the founding of the Maha Bodhi Society that encouraged all Buddhists worldwide to contribute to the restoration of the site of Bodh Gaya in India.

Between 1958 and 2002, a total of 334 individual physical Wheel Publication booklets were published by the Buddhist Publication Society (BPS). Those 334 booklets included 468 essays, tracts, and monographs; many were published as double or triple volumes.

These classic Wheel booklets are not being reprinted; many are no longer available as single issues. We have the last print run in stock—the last existing physical booklets! If this specific Wheel No. is out of stock, please note that it won’t be restocked.
