This Pariyatti Edition* is an anthology of 423 verses spoken by the Buddha, the Dhammapada serves as the perfect compendium of his teachings for study, reflection, and contemplation. This popular publication, originally published by the Buddhist Publication Society in 1990, transmits the spirit and content as well as the style of the original, skillfully combining clarity and vigor of expression with careful fidelity to the meaning. The inclusion of the Pali text gives students of Pali immediate access to the original.

A robust introduction by Bhikkhu Bodhi describes the structure of the Dhammapada and shows how the work embodies the essential teachings of the Buddha. He states, "Wherever [The Dhammapada] has become known its moral earnestness, realistic understanding of human life, aphoristic wisdom, and stirring message of a way to freedom from suffering has won for it the devotion and veneration of those responsive to the good and the true."

*Pariyatti Editions use stronger spines and thicker paper compared to past editions.

Wonderful translation. Would love a hard cover addition and hard cover pocket edition.

A great addition to one's Dhamma library

I like this version of The Dhammapada for two reasons: 1) at 3.75x4.75 inches it is small enough to be easily carried about and 2) having both P li and English for the verses makes it even more interesting if one is learning P li. My only suggestion is that it would be better (in my opinion) to have a more durable binding/cover. My copy is literally falling apart from usage and being carried about. Now, some may say that, as the Buddha said, "All conditioned things are impermanent" and this just supports the verse. But I would like a binding and cover that was just a bit more durable. Maybe a future edition would incorporate these suggestions.

Dhammapada

While the Dhammapada is available from many sources, it's offered here for a modest cost with a translation accompanied by the original Pali. As a student of Pali, it's a treasure to have these 2 languages juxtaposed for my reading pleasure. A highly honored Buddhist text offered by people (Pariyatti.org) who actually uphold its contents, offers the buyer a Win/Win scenario: the purchaser gets access to this valuable-as-ever philosophy, simultaneously earning good kamma by making the purchase with Pariyatti.org who will, in turn, make the opportunity open to others=sustainability for Buddhism itself, whose value in today's tumultuous times could never be assessed. The icing on the cake is that the translation (accompanied with an Introduction by the erudite Bhikkhu Boddhi) retains all the power emanating from the simplicity of profundity.
