Gift Ideas
for the
Vipassana Community

Books always make a great gift, we think — and perhaps especially some of our recent releases, listed below.

Beyond Day Ten - cover
Beyond Day Ten: Practical Advice on Establishing a Vipassana Practice by Corinne Bilyayev, is a guide for Old Students (those who have completed at least one ten-day Vipassana course under S.N. Goenka's assistant teachers) committed to continuing their practice at home. The book aims to energize and inspire continued practice outside of a Vipassana center. It shares the author's personal experience and practical application of Dhamma principles.

The author provides insights into overcoming hindrances such as sleep, sex, children, frustration, boredom, and even the role of food and work in maintaining one's practice. She also shares how her practice has been sustained by cultivating good friendships on the Path, offering Dhamma service, studying pariyatti (Dhamma literature), participating in group sits, and sitting annual Vipassana courses for deeper work and support.

Beyond Day Ten is available in
soft cover, eBook bundle, free PDF, and audiobook as read by the author.

Visions of Insights is a book of paintings by Andrée François in which the primary subjects include Gotama the Buddha, Emperor Ashoka, Ledi Sayadaw, Saya Thetgyi, Sayagyi U Ba Khin, and S.N. Goenka. The artist illustrates how these compassionate masters of Dhamma uniquely served humanity. Rather than turning away from the suffering of others, they dedicated their lives to teaching about suffering and how to end it. Most of us distort our worlds into theatres of endless misery; fortunately, skilful teachers—from the Buddha to Goenkaji—help us see through the illusion of an identifiable self, guiding us away from our self-defeating dramas within our tiny, personal universes.

The art in this book serves as a token of gratitude towards these benevolent guides. Visions of Insight: Portraits of Vipassana History, Culture and Experience is available in hard cover, soft cover, and as free non-printable PDF—the latter allowing you to have a sneak peek prior to purchase.

Visions of Insight - Coffee table book with art 'Portraits of Vipassana History, Culture and Experience'
Many of the images represent the meditative experience of no-self (anattā), aligning with contemporary understandings from physics—that the material world, including subatomic particles, gravity, space-time structures, and electromagnetic forces, is ultimately composed of vibration. They serve not only as objects of awe and artistic appreciation but also as supports for cultivating insight into the three characteristics of existence: impermanence, dissatisfaction, and absence of a fixed identity.

Peace is Just a Breath Away - 28 Dhamma stories
Peace Is Just a Breath Away features twenty-eight Dhamma stories that offer gentle encouragement for cultivating peace and kindness amidst life's challenges. These stories, which vary from funny to a little sad, provide valuable opportunities to reflect on everyday experiences and respond with wisdom. Inspired by S.N. Goenka, they beautifully translate the Buddha’s core teachings into a universal message, inviting both children and adults, regardless of their background, to explore happiness and peace through meditation.

The Pariyatti wall calendars will be back for 2026—they make a thoughtful gift for the season as well. A dedicated volunteer has been working behind the scenes to recreate them from scratch in InDesign, since the platform we used changed and no longer allowed for online editing.

The 2026 calendars now
include moon phases—for both the northern and southern hemispheres. You’ll be able to choose between the pilgrimage calendar and the Pariyatti Journal calendar, each available in three formats.

All calendars are in vertical orientation and consist of one cover page and twelve inner pages—one page for each month—printed on 250 gsm / 100 lb semi-glossy silk paper. They all have sturdy wire binding and a hanging hook.

For production and shipping reasons the available variations differ when ordering from the USA and Canada versus ordering from the rest of the world. The prices listed include shipping costs; the calendars will be shipped directly from a third-party printer.

We are still setting up the different variation choices on the website and linking the third-party printer in the ordering process. Orders can't be placed just yet, but everything should be ready soon.

En juvel infäst i guld (Gem Set in Gold, 2nd Ed. - Swedish)
🇸🇪 We recently released the Swedish translation of The Gem Set in Gold En juvel infäst i guld (Chronological Presentation) in print (soft cover) and a free PDF document. It contains the Swedish translations of the Pāli and Hindi chanting from a ten-day Vipassana meditation course by S.N. Goenka. The work has been formatted in chronological order so that one can readily find the translations of the chantings throughout the course. The opening night, each day's morning chanting and all other chantings, right to the end of the course, are included.

Pilgrimages

Pariyatti pilgrimages provide practitioners of Vipassana meditation as taught by S.N. Goenka the opportunity to focus on their practice of Dhamma while visiting
important sites related to the life and the teachings of the Buddha (Along the
Path – India & Nepal).
Traveling in India and Nepal can be challenging, and arranging transportation and suitable accommodation time consuming. Experienced guides—meditators themselves—lead Pariyatti pilgrims with ease past such inconveniences. The Along the Path itinerary is put together with utmost care. Time is used wisely, and pilgrims are given ample opportunity to experience the atmosphere of the different sites while meditating with fellow pilgrims.

Pilgrimage dates for fall 2026 will be determined soon.

may all pilgrims have a beneficial journey!

Pāli Workshops

The aim of our residential Pāli workshops is to provide greater access to the words of the Buddha. Goenkaji has emphasized that Pāli workshops are very beneficial; they help meditators develop their inspiration to practice and improve their understanding of the theoretical aspect of Dhamma.

The workshops are set up similarly to a 10-day Vipassana course, with recordings of Goenkaji’s chanting played in the morning and three group sittings a day.

The above photos were taken during the 15-day Introductory residential Pāli workshop in California,
led by Mor Ifrah, August 2025. More photos on Facebook.

Like Vipassana courses in our tradition, Pariyatti Pāli workshops are offered on a donation (dāna) basis; the teacher receives no remuneration for teaching, and all course expenses are covered by donations from previous students. Meals are prepared by volunteering Dhamma servers.

Serving a Pāli workshop is a wonderful and rare opportunity to develop one's pāramīs, strengthen one's practice, and meet many Dhamma friends. During breaks servers can join classes and receive the benefit of learning the direct words of the Buddha.

Paṭṭhānapāli – Cetasikā, Part One
Beautiful Mental Concomitants – Dvipaññāsā Kāmāvacaracetasikā

Cetasikā are mental factors or mental concomitants that accompany each mental state, ‘imprinting’ its specific character. Citta and cetasikā arise and cease together and cannot be disjointed; they further focus on the same object and spring from the identical base. The Abhidhamma describes fifty-two cetasikā in all: some provide its unwholesome character to the citta while others endorse and determine wholesome character and thus are also called ‘beautiful’. Every state of consciousness consists of a certain number of mental concomitants that provide the specific character to the respective citta. Not every citta contains the same combination of concomitants; neither does every cetasika accompany every citta.

The Dhammasaṅgaṇī, the first book in the Abhidhamma, explains each and every citta and provides a detailed description of the accompanying mental concomitants. These are first simply listed in reply to the question ‘what makes this citta wholesome?’ (or unwholesome, etc.) and after having introduced them a detailed explanation of each cetasika follows. It seems doubtful that even a developed meditator will be able to observe a single citta during the constant speedy flux of the rapidly exchanging states of consciousness.

It seems likewise questionable that one may be capable to note the comprised cetasikā or their character. Nonetheless, the theoretical background about the components of the mental states as highlighted in this lesson may help to understand the complex mental processes that happen constantly.

Lesson 3.10.9.1 is part of the online Pāli course Exploring the Path, one of five courses in the Pariyatti learning Center.

My Experience with Self-Courses: Forest and Home
By Brian Bender

In the summer of 2020 when the country was shutting down and Vipassana Centers were becoming more restrictive, I figured it was a good time to meditate on my own for ten days. In the woods. After all, didn’t the Buddha say, “Go meditate in the woods.” Or more precisely, in the Mahāsatipaṭṭhāna Sutta he said, “Here a monk, having gone into the forest, or to the foot of a tree, or to an empty room, sits down cross-legged, keeps his body upright and fixes his awareness in the area around the mouth.”
