These are significant suttas explaining Buddhist doctrinal viewpoints and ethical system as well as throwing light on social, cultural, religious and political conditions of ancient India during the time of the Buddha. This translation is based on commentarial tradition. Atthakatha and tika (commentaries and subcommentaries) were referred to as and when need arose during the course of translation.
