The translation of the Mahavamsa was first published by PTS in 1912. This 1980 edition was reprinted with corrections, additions and addendum by Prof. G.C. Mendis, lecturer in History, Univ. of Ceylon.
The original translation by Prof. Geiger was from Pali to German. This English edition was translated from the German by Mabel Haynes Bode, with her translation then revised by Prof. Geiger.
The Mahavamsa blends history and legend to tell the history of Buddhism in Sri Lanka from the time of the Buddha to the reign of King Mahasena (beginning of the 4th century C.E.).
The PTS Pali text is: Mahavamsa.
