tradition and differentiates them from other Theravada resources
available on our site. While the main emphasis in Vipassana meditation
as taught by S.N. Goenka is on actual practice, this product may provide
inspiration and guidance to a Vipassana meditator.
We also carry titles from the Theravada tradition, as we feel that by exploring the wider world of the Theravada texts, which include the Buddha’s discourses, commentaries, and scholarly articles and treatises, meditators have an opportunity to deepen their understanding of the Dhamma and thereby enrich their meditation practice. This kind of intellectual exploration also helps a meditator to gain an understanding of the evolution and historical context of their meditation tradition. This understanding in turn deepens their practice and understanding of the Dhamma.x

These are two of the morning chantings heard on long (more than 10 days) Vipassana courses as taught by S.N. Goenka. A different sutta, chanted by Goenkaji, is played before breakfast each morning in the meditation hall.
The Dhammacakkapavattana Sutta is the Turning the Wheel of Dhamma Sutta . It is the first discourse that the Buddha gave after becoming enlightened and was delivered to his five ascetic friends at the Deer Park in Benasares. It is the sutta in which the Buddha introduces the Four Noble Truths.

Jinapanjara Sutta is commonly translated as The Victor's Cage. Here is a passage from it:
Bound by the Victor's authority & strength, seven ramparts arrayed against them, may all misfortunes within & without caused by such things as wind or bile be destroyed without trace through the unending Victor's majesty.
As I dwell, in all my affairs, always in the cage of the Self-awakened One, living on earth in the middle of the cage of the Victors, I am always guarded by all of those great noble men.
Thus am I utterly well-sheltered, well-protected.
Through the power of the Victor, misfortunes are vanquished.
Through the power of the Dhamma, the enemy horde is vanquished.
Through the power of the Saṅgha, dangers are vanquished.
Guarded by the power of the True Dhamma,
I go about in the Victor's Cage.
